THE LOST KING
THURSDAY 23RD APRIL | 7.30PM | TRINITY THEATRE

SYNOPSIS
The Lost King (2022)
The Lost King recounts the remarkable true story of Philippa Langley, an amateur historian whose unwavering belief and determination led to one of the most astonishing archaeological discoveries in modern British history. Played by Sally Hawkins, Philippa becomes captivated by the legacy of Richard III—a monarch she feels history has treated unjustly—and sets out to uncover his long-lost grave, rumoured to lie beneath a Leicester car park.
As she battles chronic illness, institutional scepticism, and academic gatekeeping, Philippa’s quest becomes both deeply personal and fiercely challenging. Supported by her estranged husband (Steve Coogan) and guided by her own intuition, she spearheads a community-funded dig that defies the odds and rewrites history. But when success arrives, she faces a new struggle: being pushed aside as the university steps in to claim the credit.
Directed by Stephen Frears, The Lost King is an uplifting, quietly defiant drama about passion, perseverance, and reclaiming one’s voice—proving that extraordinary discoveries sometimes begin with ordinary people who refuse to give up.
