THE ROSES
TUESDAY 17TH FEBRUARY | 7.30PM | TRINITY THEATRE

SYNOPSIS
Opening Film: The Roses (2025)
The Roses is a sharp, satirical black comedy from director Jay Roach and writer Tony McNamara, reimagining Warren Adler’s The War of the Roses for a new generation. Benedict Cumberbatch and Olivia Colman star as Theo and Ivy Rose, a seemingly perfect couple whose marriage slowly—and hilariously—collapses into all-out war.
After a decade building a life in California, shifting careers, and raising twins together, the balance of power in their relationship begins to tilt. Ivy’s restaurant flourishes just as Theo’s architecture career implodes, and what starts as quiet resentment soon spirals into increasingly outrageous acts of sabotage. Supported by a standout comedic ensemble—including Andy Samberg, Allison Janney, Sunita Mani, Ncuti Gatwa, and Kate McKinnon—the film blends dark humour with heartfelt moments as the Roses battle for their home, their pride, and their sanity.
Released in 2025 by Searchlight Pictures, The Roses earned $52 million worldwide and received mixed but lively critical reactions, praised especially for the electric chemistry and razor-sharp performances from Colman and Cumberbatch.
A witty, chaotic exploration of love gone wrong, The Roses is a spirited start to our 2026 season. Enjoy the fireworks.
